The Lists of Happiness!

Ted Leonsis , right from his early years  ( as most of us do) started making a list of the things he wanted to do  but the difference is that he  executed it! You might ask who this Ted Leonsis  is ? Well, Ted  grew up as the son of a waiter and a secretary who never made more than $30,000 a year. He founded and sold his first new media company at age 26 for $60 million; co-founded AOL; bought the Washington Capitals; won an Emmy; was nominated for an Academy Award; bought the rest of the Washington Wizards. Well, what were his lists?. Here is  a sample ;  Fall in love and get married. Check.  Pay off college debts. Check. Net worth of one hundred million dollars after taxes. Check. Change someone’s life via a charity. Check. Go one on one with Michael Jordan. Check.

In his new book, The Business of Happiness, Ted  talks about his lists and how he accomplished it. Inspiring!

Retirement in the 21st century

In this special report, in Knowlwdge@Wharton, a  global perspective  and detailed look at retirement in the 21st century is given. Why people are working longer than their parents did?

The combination of increased longevity, distressed pension funds and economic hard times is causing people to remain in the workforce longer than ever and forcing governments to raise retirement ages around the world. By 2050, nearly one third of those living in developed countries will be age 60 or older, according to the United Nations, up sharply from less than 12% in 1950.

Jumo is here!

Facebook co-Founder Chris Hughes has launched Jumo, the much awaited  social networking platform for NGOs. He says it takes a very different approach “It’s not just about how much money  you are donating to this or that group. It’s about what kind of relationship you are building with that organization”.

Obviously,  Chris is  talking about   the  huge potential that social networking  offers in creating more visibility, ‘likeability’  and participation  for NGOs.

Reward your employees with Mercedes Benz!

When Clive Palmer bought the Australian Nickel refinery 16 months ago from BHP Billiton, it was losing money. In fact had it not been sold, it would have been closed down. And now 55 of his employees received Mercedes Benz cars, 750 will enjoy a luxury holiday for two in Fiji, and 50 who have recently joined the business received weekend stays at 5-star resorts in Queensland. This is remarkable story of motivating employees “The employees have worked tirelessly since July 2009 (when Palmer took over the refinery) to make this business a success, and now I want to reward them” said Palmer.
